New Leader Training

Folks,

We would like to host another leader specific training for all newly called scout leaders sometime in October of this year. Please give us some feedback as to when you would like this to be held. If I do not hear back from anyone by the 15th of August, a date will be decided by the SYMP. We want to accommodate all new leaders within the last 18 months. The district will shadow the training and the SYMP and other assigned trained leaders will conduct the training. It will be an expedited version similar to the previous training conducted by the SYMP.

Regards,

Bro Walker

Merit Badge Pow Wow update

There will be no Pow Wow this month.

Next month will be Swimming -- More details to come.

For September we planned Rifle and Shotgun.  However, with the shortage of ammunition, we will be doing Lifesaving rather than rifle & shotgun.

Our last Pow Wow for 2013 will be the follow-up for Personal Fitness & Personal Management in October.

Service schedule

Brethren,

The schedule to clean up the trash on SR 198 will be as follows:

Cherry Ridge - Aug (before Salem Days)
Foothills - Aug (before Salem Days)
Loafer View - Sep
Maple Canyon - Oct
Mount Loafer - Nov
Salem 4th - Mar
Salem 8th - Apr
Salem 7th - May
Salem 6th - June
SVV - July
Woodland Hills - Aug 2014

We will not clean the roadway Dec-Feb due to incliment weather unless otherwise dictated by the Mayor. The schedule can and will be adjusted as needed based off any unforeseen ward scheduling conflicts. Again, please invite your young women to participate in this worthy cause.

Respectfully,

Bro Walker

Service Opportunity

Brethren,

Salem city has asked our stake as well as the west stake to maintain trash cleanup on SR 198 starting at 400 N (Chevron gas station) and ending at 1100 N (Laura Kay garden center). Our stake owns the east side of the road. This will be ongoing for this stake indefinitely. We have reflective vests as well as garbage bags available for you to use. All we ask is that the vests are returned in a timely manner. Please secure the trash bags by tying the tops and placing them at the Rec Center at which time the city will dispose of them. Please include this service in your yearly planning calendar of events. We need this project started as soon as possible keeping in mind that Salem Days is upon us soon. We need at least one or two wards to start the process in the next two weeks so please get with me. This area has not been cleaned for quite a while so there is going to be quite a bit of trash this first go round. Again, this will be ongoing and we want every ward to have the opportunity to perform service. Because this is going to be happening on a busy road, we will coordinate with the county and law enforcement to make sure all safety precautions are put in place. We do not need any accidents to happen so please bring plenty of adult leadership and vehicles. Feel free to invite the young women to assist as well. More to follow....

Respectfully,

Bro Walker
